Terms and Conditions

All bookings require a non-refundable deposit to secure the booking, with the balance to be paid at the time of collection. Trailers must be collected and returned at the agreed times with Granite City Trailer Hire Ltd. The hirer must contact us as soon as possible if the agreed times can not be met. Failure to do this will result in the loss of your security deposit. Hire charges will continue to accrue until the trailer is returned.

You will be required to present your Driving Licence and a Utility Bill or Bank Statement at the same address, dated within the last 3 months.

A refundable security deposit of £150.00 is to be paid by card at the time of collection, this will be refunded on safe return of the undamaged trailer.

You should be satisfied prior to leaving Granite City Trailer Hire Ltd that the tyres are all in good condition as you will be responsible for punctures and blowouts and any costs incurred with these

All trailer lights have been checked prior to every hire, the hirer is responsible for any lights that fail whilst on hire. Granite City Trailer Hire Ltd will not be liable for any lights that fail whilst on hire.

Trailers must be returned in a clean condition otherwise a cleaning charge will be levied.

The Hirer is responsible for supplying a suitable legal number plate to match the towing vehicle.

The hirer is responsible for ensuring they are licenced to tow the trailer hired, Granite City Trailer Hire Ltd is not responsible for persons towing outwith the accordances of their driving licence, please always refer to DVSA. Hirers shall at all times be responsible for driving their vehicle with the trailer in a careful and skillful manner and in accordance with all legal requirements.

The Hirer is responsible for arranging their own insurance whilst the trailer is on hire, if they fail to do so they are personally liable up to the full value of the trailer as stated overleaf in the event of theft, loss or damage.

The hirer is responsible for returning all keys issued to them, if the keys are lost the hirer is liable for the cost of replacing the locks which the key(s) have been lost.

The hirer must satisfy themselves that they know the speed limits when towing and are aware of any other relevant regulations to be followed. Granite City Trailer Hire Ltd will not be responsible for any misuse in terms of the highway code.

The trailer must not be taken outside UK Mainland without the written consent of Granite City Trailer Hire Ltd. The hirer is responsible at all times for the trailer and should not part with possession or custody to any other person. The hirer shall notify Granite City Trailer Hire Ltd of any change in their address and upon request identify the whereabouts of the trailer at any given time. It is the hirer's responsibility to keep the trailer in a locked compound or locked to the towing vehicle at all times.

All accidents, loses and thefts must be reported to the police and Granite City Trailer Hire Ltd as soon as possible. The hirer must return in person to Granite City Trailer Hire Ltd to report the accident, theft or loss and must have a crime reference number / incident number. The hirer shall supply such information, drawings and assistance in connection with the accident as Granite City Trailer Hire or their insurers may require. The hirer shall not, unless given concent by Granite City Trailer Hire Ltd carry out any repair to the trailer or repair any damaged parts. It will also be the hirers responsibility in the event of an accident or breakdown to ensure that he/she has adequate recovery cover or they will be responsible for all costs incurred recovering the trailer.

Under no circumstances will Granite City Trailer Hire Ltd be liable to make any payments to the hirer in respect of or to indemnify to the hirer against any loss, injury or damage sustained by the hirer or by any third party as a result of the presence or use of the trailer, loading or unloading or as a result of any defect therein and in taking delivery of the trailer the hirer shall be deemed to have satisfied themselves that the trailer is in all aspects roadworthy and in proper safe condition. Granite City Trailer Hire Ltd will not be liable for the contents/load in or on the trailer; therefore the hirer should have adequate insurance to cover this. Granite City Trailer Hire will not be liable for the temperature of any refrigerated trailer you should satisfy yourself that the temperature is adequate and regular temperature checks are carried out. Prior to leaving the premises of Granite City Trailer Hire Ltd the hirer should be comfortable with the use of all features/equipment of the trailer. They should also check that the trailer is securely connected to the towing vehicle and that the secondary coupling / breakaway cable has been fitted correctly.

If due to unforeseen circumstances eg a trailer has not been returned by the previous customer, or having been returned in an unroadworthy condition, Granite City Trailer Hire Ltd will endeavour to offer another trailer or hire date. In the event of neither being acceptable Granite City Trailer HIre Ltd will not be responsible for any expenses you may have incurred by booking the the trailer

Checklist for Hirer

  • Verify the trailer is compatible with the towing vehicle and it is adequate for the proposed use.
  • CHECK the engagement of the coupling-safety features-wear limit indicators etc. The attachment of the Secondary Coupling / Break away cable; The attachment / function of the Electrical Connections, Lights etc. ;The stowage of the jockey-wheel anti-vibration / locking features; The stowage of any accessories (spare wheel, ramps etc);The provision of a legal number plate.
  • The hirer must satisfy themselves that they know how to/are aware of; Use of the handbrake; Adequate Nose-weight; Adequate Load restraint; Adequate Tyre pressure; Adequate wheel fixing Torque's; Adequate Marking / lighting of overhanging loads; Allowable towing speeds; Use of fast-lane on Motorways; Applicability of Tachograph, MAFF (etc) legislation; Trailer Insurance / Security.
